LIST: Food, water, supply distribution sites now open

We are working to keep this list up-to-date on the weekend, but people looking to visit a distribution site may want to call the site ahead on Saturday and Sunday.


Three Points of Distribution Sites, better known as PODS, offer Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), water and tarps to residents of New Hanover County (including the beach towns) and the City of Wilmington. The North and Central locations will both close at noon Monday and not reopen. The South location will close at 7 p.m. Monday and noon on Tuesday after which it will be closed thereafter.

  • North POD location: College Park Elementary School, 5301 Sidbury Road, Castle Hayne, North Carolina, 28429 (Monday, Sept. 24, 7 a.m. to noon) 
  • Central POD location:  Veteran's Park, 840 Halyburton Memorial Parkway, Wilmington. North Carolina, 28412 (Monday, Sept. 24, 7 a.m. to noon)
  • South POD location: Cape Fear Community College downtown campus (700 North Front Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, 28401 (Monday, Sept 24, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 25, 7 a.m. to noon)

Cajun Navy

The Cajun Navy has set up a 24-hour supply store at Peace Baptist Church on Military Cutoff Road.

Mobile medical unit

UnitedHealth Group has set up a mobile medical unit in Wilmington to provide the following clinical care:

  • Bloodwork, tetanus shots, available medicines and small sutures
  • Primary care from volunteer nurses

The station will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Dream Center at 901 Fanning Street in Wilmington. 

In addition to medical care, 25,000 bottles of water will also be given out.

An additional site is set up in Wallace on 1504 North Norwood Street.

Supplies giveaway

Pine Valley Church will hold a relief supplies giveaway Wednesday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or until supplies run out. The church is located at 3601 South College Road next to the CVS.

Supplies include:

  • Water
  • Food boxes
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Baby items
  • Yard tools
  • Clothes
  • Household items


Red Cross will serve 150 meals every evening from 5-6 p.m. at Station 14 at 19470 US Highway 17 in Hampstead. On Monday, Sept. 24, Tyson Foods will deliver meals and products to Lighthouse Church, 98 Trade Way, in Rocky Point.

The following will be drop sites for relief items:

  • Shiloh-Columbia Fire Department, 19170 US-421, Willard

  • Station 14, 19470 US Hwy 17 – serving evening meals.
  • Share the Table, 12395 Hwy. 50, Surf City (call 910-616-8897 for hours)
  • Gateway Community Church, 416 W. Bridgers St., Burgaw
  • Lighthouse Church, 98 South Trade Way, Rocky Point.
  • Station 29, 4849 US Hwy 421, Currie
  • Station 23, 200 Wilmington Ave., Surf City
  • Station 20, 816 S. Anderson Blvd., Topsail Beach (Tarps only for residents).
  • Share the Table, 12395 Hwy. 50, Surf City (limited hours).

Monetary donations may also be made to the American Red Cross, Gateway Community Church, Pender Christian Services, Baptist Mem of North Carolina, Lighthouse Church, and Share the Table.


County officials say those in need of meals, bottled water and supplies can stop by the following locations:

  • Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1800 West Broad St., Elizabethtown, North Carolina, 28337 (11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.)
  • Spraulding Monroe Cultural Center, 508 MLK Jr. Dr., Bladenboro, North Carolina, 28320 (12:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.)
  • Libson Baptist Church, 4588 Libson Rd., Clarkton, North Carolina, 28433 (Call 910-879-2500 for supplies.)
  • Clarkton Baptist Church, 10233 North College St., Clarkton, North Carolina, 28433 (11 a.m. - noon)
  • Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church Hurricane Florence Relief Center will begin serving the general public, September 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Several relief items are available for the public. 


 Starting Monday (Sept. 24) the following fire departments will have water and meals: 

  • Northwest Fire Department (5029 Northwest Road in Northwest)
  • Navassa Volunteer Fire Department (336 N. Main Street in Navassa)
  • Waccamaw Volunteer Fire Department (4045 Whiteville Road NW in Ash)
  • Waves of Praise Worship Center (3000 Unit 4 George II Highway, Boiling Spring Lakes) - this site will operate each day from 9a-1p and then from 3p-7p
  • Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department (161 Governors Road SE in Winnabow)

Two distribution sites will be available Monday courtesy of the Brunswick Family Assistance:

  • 4013 US 17 BUS, Bolivia, North Carolina, 28422

The Brunswick Family Assistance Shallotte office will take any questions regarding distribution sites at 910-754-4766.

Leland benefit dinner

The Joyce Irish Pub in Leland is hosting a benefit pasta dinner and live music for Brunswick Family Assistance on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. People will pay what they can and all the proceeds will be donated to Hurricane Florence victims. Clothing, cleaning supplies, bedding and other donations will also be accepted. Call 910-297-4067 for more information.

Clothing giveaway

Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Calabash is giving away clothing of all sizes to Hurricane Florence victims on Sept. 28-29. The church is located at 1090 Hickman Road.

Hours are 5-8 p.m. Sept. 28 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 29.
